Kansas City artist paints cleats for Chiefs players
A Northland Chiefs fan started painting cleats for kicker Harrison Butker last season and has new clients this year.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — When the Kansas City Chiefs take the field in Denver on Saturday, the work of a Northland artist will once again be on display. KMBC 9 caught up with the chiefs fan who's painting cleats for two players this year. He talked about his latest designs and plans for the playoffs. Greco also has his cleats on display in the 2022 NFL season for even more Chiefs players' charity work.
We first met Craig Greco in his Northland garage last football season, hard at work turning cleats into works of art for Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker. “It’s just a really neat experience,” said Greco.
This season he's scored a couple of new clients. “I’ve painted for Daniel Sorenson and Chris Lammons,” he said, after connecting with the players on social media. “The same way that I connected with Harrison, I just reached out to them on Instagram,” Greco said.
He showed us some of the cleats he's done this season, including a red and white pair for Sorensen and the showstoppers that Lammons will rock Saturday. “I just did two pairs of solid gold for him so it’ll look real clean in Denver,” he said.
The self-taught artist crafts his cleat creations in his spare time and always has new designs ready to get in the game.
“I’ve got a lot of designs and maybe just waiting for the right client to come along that'll let me bust loose,” Greco said.
He's hopeful he'll be painting through the end of January, and maybe even for Feb. 13. “I look forward to painting in the playoffs and hopefully a Super Bowl run,” he said. “That's when I think I’m gonna have the best opportunity to really paint some neat stuff on the shoes.”
